Shortcut Method

The Shortcut Method is an effective process for accelerating both sports skill acquisition for the beginner or novice athlete, and also the refining of technique for experienced competitors. This is accomplished through the five components of the shortcut method process.

  • Highly Skilled Model of Idealized Technique:  Giving the athlete's mind an accurate model of the athletic skill to be learned, makes the visual training sessions effective and beneficial.

  • Large Number of Repetitions in Each Visual Training Sequence:  In relatively few sessions, an athlete's nervous system can get the benefit of hundreds if not thousands of accurately performed  repetitions.  In addition, these repetitions do not add to the physical demands on the athlete’s body!

  • Different Angles or Points of View of the Movement Sequence:  Changing the angle of the viewpoint during the sequence enhances the athlete's ability to learn and to feel what the model is performing.  Feeling as though you are moving with the model is the critical skill to master for the process to work for you!

  • Varying Playback Speeds of the Visual Training Sequences:  Through the use of several different playback speeds, including full speed, and athletes mind can both get perspective on accurate real-life performance and a chance through slow-motion to focus on specific body parts or positions too fast moving at full speed.

  • Musical Playlist or Soundtrack for the Visual Training Sessions:  Listening to your favorite music will: put you in a relaxed positive mood, activate the right hemisphere of the brain(where movement is centered), create an anchor or auditory link to the movement being performed by the model on the screen.
